Solomon was a steady presence of calmness, curiosity, and creativity. He excels at thinking through ideas from the ground up and shaping abstract concepts into thoughtful, well executed designs. He approaches his work with humility and is always open to feedback.

He is a great human who genuinely cares about the people he works with. I loved getting to work with Solomon at datacenterHawk.

I think one of the best endorsements I can give someone I've worked with is that I'd hire them again. In Solomon's case, I actually did.

When Solomon worked at Igniter about a decade ago, I knew him as a skilled designer and a great culture fit. When he applied last year for our brand new UX/UI Designer position, he was a shoo in.

He's got a rare combination of competency and humility that make him able to latch on to someone else's vision and execute (really quickly) at a high level—receiving feedback but also helping guide the creative process. He's always sensitive to seek clarity and has a great attitude, even now, as his role at Igniter winds down.

His impact on our brand and team will last, even though he's only been here for about 9 months (this time)—he's helped develop our tech stack and influenced the way we think about who our customer is and how they think about their journey.

You should definitely hire him. Before I get a chance to. Again.

Solomon played a critical role in the overall development & performance of our consumer-facing applications and marketing since arriving in September 2021. He was a critical thought partner in helping formulate the UX/UI and marketing operations process from idea conceptions to execution for our newly created internal marketing team.

He was able to bring his passion for the Church, brand integrity, consumer-centric design, and fundamental understanding of core marketing outcomes to elevate every project where he was involved.

It's like a crime scene here, as Solomon's DNA is all over Igniter's businesses — from 4 different website applications, multiple brand email & social accounts, campaign designs, and so many UX projects helping future product launches & enhancements.

Solomon's character was an evident strength during his time at Igniter. He exemplified our cultural traits of boldness, excellence, humility, and delight. He was never afraid to help push design forward or suggest improvements that would benefit the user, routinely found areas of opportunity for improvement, always wanted to do whatever was needed to help the team win, and is a lot of fun to work with.

He is an unbelievable asset in the right organization — as our intention to elevate the cadence of UX/UI application development has been strategically reduced in scope during our recent operational alignment process.

Frequently asked questions

It starts with research — user interviews, support logs, analytics, and a look at what competitors get right and wrong. From there I restructure the information architecture around how people actually work, sketch flows as wireframes, and build a high-fidelity prototype. That prototype goes in front of a mix of new and returning users, and their feedback drives the refinements. Visual design comes last, layered on a structure that has already been validated.

Figma is home base for design, prototyping, and design systems. Alongside it I use Illustrator and Photoshop for visual and brand work, Miro for mapping and workshops, and Google Analytics plus Optimizely for behavioral data and testing. Depending on the project I have also worked in Adobe XD and with ArcGIS online systems.

With numbers tied to the problem being solved: task completion time, feature discoverability, error rates, retention, and self-service versus support-assisted actions. Those pair with post-task satisfaction surveys and moderated sessions, so a design is judged on whether people finish what they came to do — and feel confident doing it — not on how it looks in a portfolio.
